Privacy Policy
- Your location is used on your phone only. It is never sent to us or anyone else.
- There is no account, no sign-up, and no advertising.
- The app does not collect personal information.
- If you join the launch list, we keep only your email address, send you one email at launch, and then delete it.
- If you email us, we use your address and message only to reply, and delete them one year after our last reply.
- We never sell or share your information.
Who we are
The Scroll is run by Hyunchul Park. This policy covers The Scroll app and this website, thescroll.dev. It is written to meet the Personal Information Protection Act of Korea.
Location
If you allow it, The Scroll reads your phone's location to show cards about what is near you, such as the nearest subway station. The calculation happens on your device using data built into the app. Your location is not stored on our servers, because the app does not send it to any server.
You can turn location access off at any time in your phone's settings. The app will still open, but cards that depend on where you are will ask for your location instead.
Information we collect
The Scroll app does not collect personal information. It has no accounts, analytics, or advertising tools. On this website, the only personal information we collect is an email address you give us, in one of the two ways below.
Launch list
- What: the email address you enter and the date you joined. We do not store your name, IP address, or device information with it.
- Why: to send you a single email when The Scroll launches. We send it ourselves, from our own email inbox.
- How long: until that email is sent, and never more than 12 months after you join. A daily automatic job deletes any address older than 12 months.
When you email us
- What: your email address and your message, including anything you choose to write in it.
- Why: to reply to you and, if you asked, to tell you when The Scroll launches.
- How long: one year after our last reply to you.
Visiting this website
This website does not use cookies. Like any website, it can only be delivered by handling your IP address. Cloudflare does this for us, and also uses it to protect the site from attacks. We have turned off request logging, so we do not keep a record of visits.
Companies that handle information for us
We do not sell or give your information to anyone. Two companies store or process it on our behalf, and both are in the United States, so your information is transferred outside Korea. It is sent over an encrypted connection at the moment you join the launch list or email us.
Cloudflare, Inc.
- Country: United States. The launch list database is kept in Cloudflare's Asia-Pacific region.
- What they do: host this website, store the launch list (Cloudflare D1), and forward email sent to hello@thescroll.dev (Cloudflare Email Routing).
- Information: launch list email addresses and join dates, emails sent to us, and IP addresses while delivering the website.
- How long: the same periods as above.
- Contact: privacyquestions@cloudflare.com
Google LLC (Gmail)
- Country: United States
- What they do: host our email inbox, where emails sent to us arrive and from which we send replies and the launch email.
- Information: email addresses and messages.
- How long: the same periods as above.
- Contact: Google privacy contact form
If you do not want your information transferred, do not join the launch list or email us. The app works fully without either; you just will not receive the launch email or a reply.
How we delete information
Launch list addresses are deleted from the database permanently, and cannot be recovered. Emails are deleted from our inbox and its trash. We delete information as soon as its period above ends, or sooner if you ask.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, or delete the information we hold about you, or ask us to stop using it. Write to hello@thescroll.dev from the address in question, and we will act on it within 10 days. The app itself holds no personal information about you, so there is nothing in it to see or delete.
How we keep it safe
Information is sent only over encrypted connections. The launch list and our inbox can be reached only by the person who runs The Scroll, and we do not copy them anywhere else.
Children
The Scroll is not directed at children under 14 and does not knowingly collect information from them. If we learn that a child under 14 has given us their email address, we delete it.
